IBD’s team – which until now has designed and produced innovative devices for hemodialysis – has been deeply moved by the COVID-19 emergency and shocked by the scarce presence of ventilator manufacturers in Italy. In an attempt to help alleviate the situation, the team has decided to develop a new type of ventilator for sub-intensive therapy.
The first 10 ventilators produced will be donated to Desenzano del Garda Hospital. After that, we aim to certify the device as a class IIa medical device, internalize mass production and supply all hospitals which will request it.
Doctors around the world currently agree that assisted lung ventilation is the only effective therapy for patients with COVID-19 pneumonia with ventilatory impairment.
Many types of lung ventilators already exist on the market; however, at present, they are in short supply with long waiting times. They are also very expensive and mostly designed for intensive care and intubated patients.
Our team – which until now has designed and produced innovative devices for hemodialysis – has been deeply moved by this emergency and shocked by the scarce presence of ventilator manufacturers in Italy. In an attempt to help alleviate the situation, we have decided to develop a ventilator for sub-intensive therapy: one with high flow and mixing of oxygen, which can be used for any hospital bed and even in the home, easy to use and transport.
Time is of the essense and our goal is to bring this ventilator into production in Italy in just 3 weeks.
This goal is ambitious but achievable thanks to the skills and willingness of the IBD team, employing internally developed and patented technologies. The readiness and availability of a group of companies with which IBD has already worked, such as EOStech Srl, Test’Ing Srl, AD MODUM R&D Srl, Smartaudiopro Srl and Fausto Negri, will also be of great assistance.
